Andy works at Microsoft research as part of the Adaptive Systems and Interaction group. His interests include computer sensing, computer vision, computer-human interaction, gesture recognition, machine learning, hardware devices and ubiquitous computing.

Andy received his PhD at the MIT Media Lab, where he explored gesture recognition from video and other sensors in a machine learning framework. He has a BA in Computer Science at Cornell. Andy grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania.

His recent work includes Microsoft Surface, an interactive touchscreen like no other. For more information on this work, see HERE. He's the brain behind the project. Link to Bill Gates showing off this very cool device HERE. His other projects have included a spherical multi-touch display, Play Together, and depth sensing video cameras. He has collaborated with many other researchers and both published and presented his findings at numerous international and national conferences. He was featured in a cover story in Northwest Airlines' in-flight magazine.
